Subnetting - what is it?
Subnetting refers to the process of addressing a system with subnets. An IP address is an identifier on an IP network. An IP address is a sequence of four eight-bit binary numbers separated by a dot ("."). Each eight-bit number is called an octet. The numbers are in base 256 sequences. The number in an address represents an eight-bit binary number. In our regular decimal counting system, 11111111 is the highest eight-digit binary number.
