Steps to use the time duration calculator!

You can calculate your Time duration using a clock time calculator, which helps to work out the duration between two times during a single day with the 12-hour or 24-hour format. The steps to find the time duration are as follows:

  • Select either 12-hour or 24-hour time formats
  • Start clock time by giving the hour, minute, and second. If you use a 12-hour clock, you must select whether it is am or pm.
  • For the end clock time, a time duration starts on one day and ends the next day.
  • The Time duration calculator results will show the number of hours, minutes, and seconds between the two times.

Calculate the duration between two times.

  • Determine the number of hours and minutes between two different times on the same day, the steps are as follows:
  • Identify the start and end time; the main goal is to subtract the starting time from the ending time under the correct conditions.
  • Convert the time to 24-hour time, where AM hours are the same in both 12-hour and 24-hour time; for PM, add 12 to the number to convert it to 24-hour time.
  • Determine whether the number of minutes is larger in the starting or ending times.
  • Ending time has a larger number of minutes; subtract the starting time from the ending time and normally subtract, keeping the hours and minutes on the required sides. Hours are on the left side, and minutes are on the right side.

          Example:
          13:57
          - 9:22
            4:35

  • Starting time has a larger number of minutes; treat the hour and minute portions separately. Add 60 to the number of minutes in the ending time, then subtract 1 hour from the ending time. Subtract the minutes and the hours and keep the results on the appropriate side where hours are on the left and minutes are on the right side.

           Example:
          13:57                  12:117
          - 9:58      →        - 9:58
                                       3:59
